1. What is old, and what is new in any work of art?
Art can either be new or old, although newer art is more representative of peoples feeling and the problems that are brought up today are ok to show through art. Normally new art is made from almost anything. Old art is made from painting normally. 2. How is art used in everyday life? Advertisement, designing, trying to get your message across to other people. Now I feel like there is more art used for these then another decade before. 3. How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication? If we want a send a message to the community we have to make sure it is appropriate so it won't offend people and get their attention. 4. What problem-solving skills are employed in making works of art? Being able to fix any problem when you are doing a art piece is a very important part so it will end up the way you wanted it or even better. |
Political Cartoon, BlackFish
- Did you meet the project objectives? In this project I feel like I was able to meet all of the project objectives. I also decided to use color in my final project because I really wanted to capture the main idea, and adding the color really helped me portray that in my final piece.
- Please explain how your political cartoon gets you message across to your intended audience? After watching both Black Fish and The Cove I decided to lean more towards the documentary about the orca whales. I feel like its very important to have people know and understand why it is very important to free the whales and dolphins in Water World and other ocean animal parks around the world. Personally as a person who really hates the captivity of wild animals and who believes that it wrong, I thought that this project we did during school was the most perfect opportunity for me to show my opinion though a political cartoon. Specifically in my cartoon it is about how they people in Water World say that it is a better life for the animal in captivity because they don’t have to hunt for fish, and that they get to have all they vitamins that they need. Actually keeping the animal in captivity is very stressful for them and causes them to have depression.
- How can information be shared artistically? Anything can be portrayed artistically though paint or pencil. It just matters how you use it and what kind of emotion you are trying to get out of your audience.
- How does creating art differ from viewing art? I think an artist might be feeling something else when creating the art rather than the person viewing it but it depends on who and where. I think the most closest connection a person can get with a certain piece of art is if they were the one who made it in the first place, Weather that is music, production, or physical art.
Pre Historic Art History Drawings
Project Description Prompts: (250 words or more, Type in Google Docs 1st!)
- How did you start this project? I started this project by drawing my pre historic art sketch on a regular piece of paper with a graphite pencil. I took a picture of the piece and then I opened it in Adobe illustrator. I simply used the Image Trace tool and edited the effect to make it greater or less.
- What was the context around the project? We used the knowledge that we learned from the couple of days ago from the lecture about pre historic art. I decided to draw a picture of a mountain range using black paper and white charcoal.
- What resources did you use to improve your drawing skills? I didn't draw the image from the head I used a image off of the internet of a couple of mountain ranges merged together.
- How did you feel the image trace technique impacted your drawing? I feel like they were very accurate at tracing the images (even the very small lines.) This made it look very clean. Since my image was just in black and white it looked really good to have the very clean lines that were solid black and white.
- How could you see yourself using this technique in the future? I would use this method of the image trace tool to trace my drawings to make them look very clean. I think it would be a good idea to use this as well because it gets rid of the pixelation in the image. This way I could use the image on a poster or on a package without pixelation or glare, it will show every detail.
- Final thoughts or self discoveries? I am really happy that I discovered this tool because it was very helpful for me and hopefully I will be using this tool in the future. I really liked how accurate it was, also the flexibility to change it was very nice.
Artist Statement
Creature Teacher Project
For this project I decided to do a starbucks themed art piece. I wanted to use the colors found in the starbucks logo, dark green and a white color. The first thing I did was copy the image onto the document. I used the eyedrop tool to get the exact color of green. With the green I colored the shadows on the eye and used the white to color everything else. Hannah really likes Michael Franti so I made her a vintage t-shirt and pasted the image of the album cover onto the shirt in photoshop. On a different layer I colored with the green paintbrush to the dark parts in the logo, after that I deleted the logo and then the image of the colored darkened spots stayed on the t-shirt. I used this method for the body and the beanie she is wearing. For her hair I copied her hair and pasted it sideways to make it look like bangs.
Landscapes
Understanding distance with scale and porportion
For this mini-project we were given a certain amount of pictures that Roxy took. Most of these pictures are pictures of nature, backgrounds, skys, and up close pictures. Using photoshop we had to mash these pictures together to make a whole new picture, emphasising foreground, midground, and background. I used a picture of a curvy road going up a mountain pass for my mid ground part of the picture. I used a picture of a closeup flower for my foreground picture. I used a picture of fluffy white cloud and a blue sky for my background. To mesh the pictures together I used the quick select tool to select each opponent of the picture that I wanted to have in my picture. I made sure to use the refine tool to make sure the edges of the picture were smooth. When I was finished with the picture I added corresponding text for each of the grounds.
